What if The Beatles or The Rolling Stones had been constantly followed by a documentary crew capturing every moment of their lives, both on and off stage… every brilliant songwriting moment, every fight, every breakup, every groupie, all on tape cut into a hilariously tragic feature docufilm? Who wouldn’t want to watch that?!

Well, that’s exactly what we did! In a world where The Heroine Beige is the biggest rock band of its time…

The Heroine Beige is a feature-length mockumentary film that chronicles the rise and fall of fictional Berlin-based band The Heroine Beige, led by brothers James & John McCoy, who take on fake British identities in a comical effort to make a name for themselves in the rock 'n' roll scene.

Think “This is Spinal Tap” meets “Almost Famous” (with a Guy Ritchie flair).

OUR STORY

We are Saverio Cesaretti, Kit Moynihan, and Ruby Rose Krakower, a small team of up-and-coming young independent filmmakers with a good idea and a dream: to bring back comedy to the “music film”!

In 2022, Saverio and his musical partner Arvid Ekberg created the fictional band The Heroine Beige and wrote a concept album from its perspective titled James, John, and The Heroine Beige.

Over the course of the following year, they teamed up with director Kit Moynihan to develop and produce the homonymous proof-of-concept short film that represented the first visual iteration of our project, featuring the original music from the album.

Making the short film was an exhilarating experience that taught us many lessons and left us yearning for an expansion of the project into our dream format: a mockumentary feature film. Therefore, in 2025, we decided to team up with producer, cinematographer, and comedy writer Ruby Rose Krakower to help us realize our vision and begin development on our final feature script.

While the short film was truly an experiment, it holds a special place in our hearts, and as a token of our gratitude for your belief and incredible support of our project (and to show you what we were able to accomplish with incredibly limited resources), we have decided to schedule it for independent web release in the fall of 2026.

We hope you will enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it, and we’re incredibly excited to show you how our idea has matured, expanded, and solidified into a strong standalone feature film.

After the incredible success of The Heroine Beige’s debut album and their now-legendary BIG European tour, the band's leaders, brothers James and John McCoy, tragically broke up. We, their dedicated documentary crew, have been following the pair around Berlin to document the fallout, but we've bloody well lost them!

While we have no inkling of a clue where John’s whereabouts might be, we hear James has turned up in London and is gearing up to face a new rock 'n' roll nemesis in an epic BATTLE OF THE BANDS showdown...

...BUT... we're stuck in Berlin because after their untimely breakup, the band’s label pulled all our funding, and their screaming fans are completely broke...

...SO we need YOU to help us keep shooting so YOU can witness rock 'n' roll history!

We need a flight to catch him, a better camera, a British crew, and preferably a bed to sleep in.

Will James win and establish himself as a powerful solo act in London? Or will he lose and remain the washed-up former rockstar he’s become? Does anybody know where John’s run off to? Has everyone just accepted that they’re British?

And finally, will The Heroine Beige ever get back together?

In the spirit of the great independent productions that paved the way in comedy and gave us the gift of the mockumentary, we have worked very hard to keep expenses at a bare minimum, using what we’ve learned over the years as young filmmakers to inform our creative and logistical choices.

However, we would be remiss not to admit that we are taking on a significantly bigger beast this time around, as we embark on what, for most of us, is our debut feature film. Therefore, we’ve been crowdfunding a significant portion of our budget and are relying on donations from kind people who are interested in seeing our vision realized.

After an incredible first round of fundraising, we have reached over 80% of our crowdfunding goal. This brings our budget to the level necessary to cover the first leg of production in London this October 2026. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

However, we are continuing our fundraising push in preparation for the second leg of production, which will include location shoots in Berlin and other EU cities, as well as post-production and distribution costs.

OUR TEAM

Saverio Cesaretti is an Italian musician, actor, and comedy writer based in Berlin, Germany. Saverio plays the lead role of James McCoy in The Heroine Beige and is also the co-creator and co-writer. Additionally, he is the musical mastermind behind the film’s fictional homonymous band, alongside his collaborator Arvid Ekberg.

Saverio has various music projects that have put him on stages across Germany and Europe, including his collaboration with Berlin electronic music artist Bondi and his and Arvid’s former duo project Music for Models. Most recently, his song Comin' Round was featured as the title track for Jan Koslowsky's comedy short La Passerella di Amelie, which premiered at the Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival in Saarbrücken, Germany.

Kit Moynihan is a British writer/director based between London and NYC and is the co-writer and director of The Heroine Beige. He specialises in comedy, with several shorts under his belt.

His first short, Deep Pockets, premiered at the NY International Short Film Festival in 2023. His most recent project, Mimi The Mime, has just premiered at the 2026 Dances With Films film festival in Los Angeles, in the competition shorts category. Having recently moved back to the UK, The Heroine Beige is Kit’s way of permanently segueing back into the London film scene, where he plans to base all future projects, and will be his debut feature as a writer and director.

Ruby Rose Krakower is a new addition to our creative team as our co-writer, cinematographer, pre-production producer, and token woman (sorry, she made us put that last bit in there). Ruby is a writer/director, producer, and cinematographer originally from New York and now based in Berlin, where she frequently collaborates with Saverio on both music and film projects.

With a focus on writing comedy paired with a unique atmospheric visual style, Ruby earned the National Board of Review award for her short film On The Ridge, for which she was the writer, director, and cinematographer. She was also the lead producer on the independent feature film Characters Disappearing, which was featured in the New York Times and is currently still on the festival circuit. Her work also spans music photography and cinematography, and she most recently toured with high-profile artists Samia and YHWH Nailgun on their 2025 EU/UK tours.
